Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seeing as other threads on the band are several years old, thought it'd be time for a new one. Especially with their new album Emperor Of Sand to be released on March 31st.

They haven't released a bad album yet. Expect this release to be no different.

    That artwork...my eyes...

Still though, a solid band in fairness!

Looking forward to this one. Sultans Curse sounds decent from the clips, haven't looked for full song though! Getting a very Crack the Skye vibe from it.

Very much looking forward to this!

Missed their last couple of gigs here for various reasons so another Irish date would be swell.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Still better than The Hunter's artwork though. It'd be hard to beat album covers like Blood Mountain's, Leviathan's, and Crack The Skye's!

Thoughts on the songs released from the upcoming album?

I'd rate them all as good, without being great.

    Nondescript tbh.

The new songs are a bit too dull and predictable for my liking.

Ya for me they haven't released a bad album so with that and may be wrong but im guessing some of ye are the same that with that comes higher expectations and so far they are probably not being met.

Songs are good nothing more I'd have to look at it over the course of the whole album all the same but if these were released by another band I can't truly say I'd give them a fair go.

I'm loving Show Yourself. I'd say I have listened to it about fifty times today. I love Mastodon by the way and my favorite album is Blood Mountain.

    I know :pac::pac::pac:

It's actually a great listen, stand by my last post in terms of grabbing a new audience as I think possibly a number of the tracks aren't as impacting in isolation but overall yeah not gonna run away with myself and say it's outstanding or anything theres certainly moments but a worthy release yet again, "Steambreather" may be my favourite one on there.

I'm going to pi55 into the wind, and BUY this album.

And remember folks, don't be b*tching and moaning if Mastodon can't afford to tour in Europe again.

To be fair, nowadays I think bands are more likely to make their money from touring than the album sales, and they're always around. :pac:

Listening to the album this morning, I'm really enjoying it, it's another good album to add to the Mastodon discography of consistently good releases. It is very accessible, but probably because of that it doesn't quite grab me like anything they've released pre-The Hunter, but nothing after Crack The Skye really has in all honesty. Having said that, I still enjoy the last 3 albums.

Been giving this a spin the past couple days. Have to say that it works great as a collection of tracks as opposed to the individual tracks they released beforehand.

They're still maintaining their trajectory in a mainstream direction and it's very accessible. Lyrically it's standard Mastodon fare.

The standout track so far imho.

A new album this quickly is a pleasant surprise as I really enjoyed Emperor of Sand.

I wasn't a fan of Emperor of Sand. That album cover is very inviting however. I hope they go down the progressive/experimental path again and give us something we haven't heard before.

Yeah didn't enjoy Emperor of Sand much myself. Hopefully this goes for a different sound.
