ETFs on Degiro - your experiences?

I started using Degiro about a year ago, just bought a few shares in some well known companies but now starting to realise ETFs are a better/safer option than me randomly picking companies.

Just wondering if anyone has experience buying ETFs on Degiro and which ones you'd value / why.

I'm new to this game and would appreciate any do's and don'ts to be honest. Vanguard is one option that I'm looking at, but there's a bunch of options even there.

Backstory: In early 20s with mid €xx,xxx to invest. Sick of leaving most of it in a bank getting nothing.

The whole tax situation scares me to be honest. Spent years saving this money yet nearly half of it goes to the tax man. Nonsense.

After writing this I've realised it's another "what to do with xx savings", apologies if it comes across that way.

IMHO we could really do with a sticky with all the main points about ETFs, they're the sensible choice for so many users and there's some tricky aspects relating to tax but nothing too complex that a sticky couldn't cover. Currently the useful info seems to be littered among various threads both here and on askboutmoney without any good single point of reference anywhere.

Yeah I felt bad creating a thread but info just seems to be everywhere and more than likely outdated.

Silly question of the day: What are the best sites to check the prices of ETFs? It can be harder to find these compared to normal shares.

Want to make sure degiro are showing the correct price because sometimes they can be a bit off I find. Don't want to get caught out either if the EFT jumped up in price for whatever reason even though the market remained the same.

Would it be fair to say S&P 500 with vanguard is the most popular?

Also, you should consider if you have any plans for savings in next 5-10 years before investing it e.g. buying a house. You'd be far better off IMO using E25K to increase your deposit, get lower LTV and hence lower APR, resulting in large interest savings. Just something to keep in mind - don't go into investing with the idea that its the only game in town.

It is the only game in town. Too young to be thinking about getting a mortgage of 200k plus. No way.

Again, could be a stupid question but when you buy etfs can you buy 1.5 or does it have to be one two or 3 etc and does the same apply to shares?

For example with a bitcoin do you have to have the 6k to buy one or can you buy a percentage of one?

You have to buy in 1 share increments.
Look at mutual funds if you want percentages of shares.

Can you do that on Degiro?
