Apologies in advance for a long post! Essentially, I applied for a job last week that I'd love to get - I have worked with the company before for 3 years (though in a different department), always got on well with everyone around me and have experience relevant to the new role I've applied for, so ultimately I felt I had a good chance of success.

The job posting listed Saturday just gone as the closing deadline, and when I checked on Sunday it had been removed from jobs websites, however on Monday it was reposted and I am still waiting to be contacted about if I have been selected for an interview.

Realistically, I know this doesn't look good but I'd love to hear other people's take on the situation. One thing in particular that is giving me a small glimmer of hope is that when the job was reposted it was a direct copy and paste of the previous advertisement - including the fact that the closing date was listed as Saturday 21st. Part of me is hoping that this is just a lazy attempt by somebody in HR to buy more time, as it's quite a large company and they're currently hiring for several different positions so the one I applied for might not be taking priority right now.

On the other hand, I know for a fact that the position I applied for doesn't have a lot of flexibility re start dates. X amount of people will be required to be trained and confident in the role by a certain date and that date is fast approaching, so a part of me is scared that they may have contacted anyone who they were interested in from the first posting but needed more candidates and didn't feel any of the remaining applicants - myself included - were suited to the role so while they begin interviews they have reposted to get a better selection, but I can't get my head around the prospect that I wasn't even selected for an interview.

I did email today mentioning that I saw the role has been reposted and was there any update for candidates who applied before the initial closing date, but the only email address I could find for queries was a generic one, not one for a specific person who might be looking after this particular vacancy, and I got an automated response saying they hope to be able to reply to emails within five working days. I don't know what advice I'm asking for or what I expect people to say, I'd just be interested in hearing other people's take on the situation and anything else that might be beneficial to do while I wait to (hopefully) hear back about interviews!

I think you are over thinking it. There could be multiple reasons why the job was reposted and you've done the only thing you can do which is to enquire if there is any update on your application. If it is a big company the hiring procedure can often take time and/or get bogged down in beaurocracy but you only applied a week ago so it might just be patience that is required here. Best of luck.

Not much time has passed at all really since the closing date so I wouldn't worry. You've sent in your application, followed up with an email and now it's just a matter of waiting, frustrating as that may be. To be blunt, you'll likely come across as a bit desperate and annoying if you follow it up again.
