    Hi all,

Looking for some advice, got referred from my dentist to the periodontist yesterday and due to a reoccurring gum disease issue.

After a 30 min consultation (which cost €175) with the periodontist they have suggested that I get all my wisdom teeth removed at a cost of €1000. (€250 per tooth)

Then i would require 4 deep cleaning sessions (1 hr each) over a period of 8 weeks at a cost of €400 per session (so €1600).

This brings a total cost of €2600. Does this seem a little steep?

A bit of back ground info.

I have had this issue for a number of years, no pain, just the odd bit of bad breath and bleeding, always managed with it with normal cleanings with my regular dentist every 4-6 months, it's not betting any worse but it's also not getting any better.

Would it be worth getting it done up the north? Would i see any savings if i do this?

those cleaning sessions are by my reckoning, slightly on the cheap side of a periodontist. anyone else any ideas?

regarding the wisdom teeth, are there any impacted/otherwise compromised? if they are fairly straight forward then maybe they could be done at a general dentist.

perio specialists in the north would be a similar price.

no pain is the bad thing about gum disease. it's a slow moving thing in most cases, and by the time it does cause pain, it's usually too late to do a whole lot about. your own dentist may have been helping you to manage it over the years but now it's getting to the stage where more proactive action is needed.

Sounds about right to me. The only thing more expensive than good periodontal treatment is the implants when you loose your teeth. Periodontal disease is the silent killer of teeth. Its grumbles away for years and then all of a sudden you start to loose teeth wholesale.

Preventive treatment is never what you want to spend money on, but by gods its some of the best money you can spend.

2600 to get on the road t saving your teeth sounds good value when it can be just that alone for a single tooth implant - get the treatment.
