I have had my eye on the Ateca for quite a while - all the reviews are positive from what I've read.

I'd probably go for the Xcellence trim & the 1.4TSI petrol engine as i don't do the mileage for a diesel.

Saw they have some demo models in Monaghans in Galway, will pop in for a look see soon.

Also interested to see if anyone has any hands on experience.

They seem to be expensive when you look at the similar VW model. Usually there's a bit of a difference in price between the two brands. Or maybe the ones I've looked at are just very well specced. I'm in the process of buying a new Qashqai for the wife so I did look at them but there's approx 8k in the difference in some cases plus the Qashqai residuals are rock solid, hard to know how the Seat will fare. Appreciate they're not quite apples with apples as the Seat is the bigger car etc

    It's a lovely suv.
But a Toyota mechanic once told me never buy a new model car in its first year of release due to all the recalls and bugs that they find when people bring them back. This goes for all brands.

The Tiguan would be the VW alternative, refreshed model with the highline spec is around 37k.

Ateca with Xcellence spec is 31k so a bit of a saving to be had. I have looked at the Tiguan too but can't justify the extra money for a VW badge.

I think the Ateca shares platform with some others in the group, so presume the beta testing would be done at this stage.

Dashboard on those are woeful, like a throw back to the 80's.

Isn't it more than the badge though? Doesn't the tiguan have fully independent rear suspension and the ateca just a torsion beam setup?

Also (this is just my opinion) but I think the tiguan is better inside and out

Happy to be corrected, but from from what I've read the Ateca is essentially the Tiguan with a Seat badge albeit slightly smaller.

Just like Audi so except people are stupid enough to pay silly money for an Audi.
I do agree the dash ain,t the most exciting but it is also there first SUV and they are quite a small part of the VW group.
I hope its a huge success for them and its much better value than the Tiguan.
I think its much nicer than the new Tiguan which has got to be one of the most boring looking cars ever. The original was better looking.

In my opinion it even looks better then tiguan. I like this gen seats as I said before. I actually sow facelifted seat Leon that is coming later this year and it looks worse. Doing same thing as skoda with Octavia now. Making it worse...

Is ateca counted as SUV or crossover?

Yes he has a point, but a lot of that is in the good old days too, it's not so much in the new cars anymore, plus a lot of the cars have been released on other markets before here so they can be out a while before they reach our shores. It it not unheard of for a manufacturer to remove(minor) safety feature of a new model car once it has got its NCAP rating etc, so from that point of view you are better to a vehicle manufacturered in the first 6 months of production!

I looked at it but the pricing on the extra's was all over the place. Prices were dropping on some of the extra's within that week. Even the dealer could not keep up with the price changes. At least VW package the most common extras into bundles with good price reductions, which Irish customers seem to like. If Seat took the same approach, I think we would see a lot of Ateca's on the road.

The VW badge will be worth more on trade in then a Seat in a few years too surely ?

So not just same car with for 5k less

Personally, prefer the new Comfort/high line Tiguans but I think VW will be worth more although not the full 5k more
