Looking at going on holiday in mid May. Knock airport is the handiest for use. Any recommendations? Our children will be around 22 months and 7 months. Anyone have any recommendations? Half board or self catering?

Malaga, Faro or Alicante would be ideal with nice weather that time of the year

Had been looking into Alicante. Discounted the Canaries islands due to the 4+ hours flight time, a nightmare for kids as young as ours.

Not too keen on Malaga unless we were recommended somewhere.

Is it better to go half board or self catering with young children? Don't want to be cooking and cleaning all the holiday.

I suppose with kids as young as yours, you'll end up preparing their food anyway, so personally id go half board so at least you and your partner don't have to worry about buy/preparing for for yourselves. Bear in mind eating out in these resorts tends to be very affordable.
Im fairly familiar with Malaga and there are some really nice areas there, I've stayed in the actual city itself and this is easy to access from the resorts which are also nice, loads of beach access and more than enough restaurants and bars by the sea

Would recommend oceanus aparthotel in olhos d'agua in the algarve. We went there with our 6 month old previously. Nice apartments and pool area. Nice small family resort with a cove beach and cheap eating options. Also not too long a flight and airport transfer only about 20 mins

Weather will be warm but not too hot mid may. We went late may and it was just right. We booked accommodation through alpharooms I think and was reasonable at that time of year.

Will look into this. Is the area hilly and what is the accommodation like? Is it far of a walk to shops, restaurants, etc.?

Tenerife looks good to me, I'm looking at a place called Sunningdale select that's 10 mins from the airport. Think flights are on Thurs from knock

Looks good to me. The big problem for me would be the flight time. Can't see our little ones dealing with a 4+ hour flight.

Totally agree, for the sanity of yourselves, surrounding passengers and your poor kids, i don't recommend putting them through a 4 hour flight!

The one positive I'd give the idea of a flight to Tenerefe is that it seems to be a midday flight, so at least they should be in reasonably good form. They could play a little in the morning, they'd be in good humour on the plane and might have an afternoon nap . When you arrive its still not past their bedtime so they should still be in reasonably good form.

In comparison, despite our kids being VERY used to travelling on planes (the first was flying every other month with the wife when she was off on maternity for a year, which quickly became 2 years when the second came along!), we brought our pair on just a 2 1/2 hour evening flight thinking it'd be a routine spin as per normal.
We didnt cop on that we were so essentially hopping on the plane just when it was their bedtime, so rather than sleep, the pair just went pure spare altogether on the plane. They were over tired at that stage, but rather than sleep they just screamed their heads off.

So overall I'd probably rate a midday 4hour flight as less of a risk with small kids than a 1 or 2 hour late evening flight which are just a nightmare, and which maybe sticks in peoples minds as what travelling with kids is like. And youve the bonus that if they are still in the routine of taking an afternoon nap, you might have one or both alseep for half the journey.
