Moving from Jobseeker's Allowance to part-time self-employment

I'm currently on Jobseeker's Allowance but will be starting part-time, self-employed work soon.
The business I will be working for are operating in a similar manner to Uber.
I don't want to name the business.
You are brought on as a contractor.
As far as revenue is concerned you are self-employed but this business tells you the hours you can work, where to work and what the pay is.
They can give me two days work at the weekends.
I will probably be making less than I am getting with JSA.
I was going to close my Jobseeker's claim when I noticed the options they give you to select why you are closing it.

There is no option to say you are starting part-time work or becoming self-employed.
So I began to wonder whether I should be closing my claim or is there something else I should be doing.
I heard about the x's & o's scheme but I don't think it applies to me as technically I will be self-employed.
I also know about the Back to Enterprise Allowance scheme but this only applies to full time self-employment

So should be closing my claim and just listing 'other' as the reason or is there something else I should be doing?

You dont have to close your claim. You can ask to be assessed as a self employed person. You may get some part payment depending on your income from your self employment. Call into your local office and have a chat with them.

Thanks. Would that mean I would still have to sign on every month and be actively looking for work?

As was said above, you don't have to close you claim nor go on xs and os.

If you go chat to them, they'll allow you full payment up untill your first payday, then you'll be required to show proof of days and hours worked. If you're not making much they will give you a reduced payment.

You'll be expected to be looking for full-time employment as you'll be a on a reduced job seekers payment, but you'll only have to sign on once a year.
