Planing query re: retention

We just bought a place which has had the front pedestrian entrance converted to a driveway, some 15 years ago. There was no planning sought for this.

The driveway is extremely narrow and very difficult to reverse into as the house is on a busy road.

I want to widen the driveway and am aware I will need planning for this. How do I go about it seeing as there is no permission for the existing driveway? Do I apply for retention and then the widened driveway at the same time or can I just apply for the new driveway and show the current situation as existing, staying we are aware it does not have permission?

Most of the houses in the terrace have added driveways but only one seems to have planning - two doors down from us and in 2015 so I would be confident that we would get permission.

Retention of current opening and permission to widen in the one application.
Very simple, straight forward application to make.
