hi thinking of switching from Virgin to Sky broadband has any body got any advice on how good Sky is?

I really don't get why people would want to move from Virgin Media broadband to Eir/Vodaphone etc.

Virgin offers up to 360megs while moving to the others will get you somewhere between 7 megs and 100 megs depending on distance from a cabinet. Virgin are also cheaper than most others.

Which is why it would be good to know why you want to move away from VM, service issues? cost? channel selection?

Price. Sky fibre, TV & phone is €49 per month for 12 months for new customers. Similar Virgin deal is €45 for 6 months and then €95 thereafter.

Most casual users also have no need for 360Mb broadband either.

The only way to answer that is what do you want from it?
Virgin are by far the fastest network but bear in mind a million megs per second is only as good as it's reliability. Different areas have good one one network and crap on the other move just down the road and the tables are turned.
Virgin is pretty good but they have one wire. Everybody is on that one wire. The more people using it the more noise is being generated
Too much noise and your broadband goes puff.
(Constant reconnecting every 5 minutes)
This is more evident at 7pm when everyone gets home.
Eir network pretty good if your close to the cab but get a wet joint and you'll be having issues. Every line is a dedicated line though in the eir network if one person is having an issue it's usually just limited to that one person with a fault.
Virgin in fairness are quick to get the finger out and usually have a new housing estate cables up weeks before eir do.
A decent rule of thumb for moderate internet use is 5mbps per person. Netflix takes anywhere between 1.5 to 5mpbs depending on quality and video compression.
15mb good for a couple and then some overhead.
Nobody needs 350mbps but 20 years ago we said 1.5gb HDD you'll never fill that so time will make me eat my words.
