Understanding nerve block injection

I was accidentally knocked over in October and hurt my back. An MRI in Dec revealed L4-L5 left central disc protrusion leading to asymmetrical left neural foraminal stenosis and L5-S1 high signal annular fissure with left central disc bulge, assymmetrical left neural foraminal stenosis. Because of the type of injury i was only getting pain when standing and walking. I saw the orthopaedic surgeon earlier this month and he recommended an injection into my spine, so i'm waiting for that.

12 days after my appt with the ortho i fell over flat onto my face (tripped over my own feet). I now have new siactic pain that wasn't there previously. My question is with regards to the injection i am waiting for, does it numb the whole siactic nerve, or only where it is injected?

Inform the ortho of the additional issue, they may want to adjust the injection.

That is what i was worried about. I am still trying to find out how long i need to wait for the injection. The first place was a 4-6mth wait and that is paying privately. I have been referred elsewhere and am just waiting for them to call me back. If its going to be a long wait as well, i will see if this new pain settles down before calling the ortho as i presume that will mean another consultation and possibly mri?

Would you go to your regular doc if it doesn't get better?. Maybe it'll just be a footnote not requiring further attention, gp would be the route I'd choose..
