Just saw that pallaskenry selling it's dairy herd. Not a dairy man but seems a strange decision why an ag college puts so much effort into putting together a herd and the disperse it.

That was an impressive herd. Did the cert there about four years ago and at the time milk price was high. They said that given the diet of the cows they would only break even at around 28-30 cent a litre.

If there going x breeding I don't know why they don't hold what they have andcstart using je or kiwi x on them.the first x from some of those milkeir cows would give a serious first x .

They're selling up to replace with animals of a high EBI that will be better able for a higher proportion of grass in the diet.

Have a look on twitter at the Salesian Ag College @SalesianAg, they have a bit on the reasoning they used.

That's what I heard too ,some said 'twas very dear at that . I wonder do the same lads know that it costs circa 1500 to get a heifer to parlour ???

Higher than I thought they would get with the mixed press over the whole thing. Suppose when your getting a calf in the sale too cuts the cost a nice bit.
Wonder when will their next clearance be?

They don't because they exclude half the costs, labour being a big one also the heifers that fail to go incalf adding more costs for little return.
