Fault on phone line, Vodafone refusing to fix it?

    Hi guys

I am currently with vodafone for broadband and in november my internet stopped working properly,i cannot game online or stream at all, getting speeds of 1mbps dl / 400kb upload on a good day.

I contacted vodafone and they sent out an engineer who literally did a speed test and left (USELESS) , so i called again amd this time an engineer came out and had a proper look, told me that there was a massive fault on the phone line and that I myself had to expose the phone line.

Now i have 0 knowledge of phone lines and exposing them , i would be terrified of electrocuting myself , is it not Vodafones job to fix this issue?

Also, the fault is outside my porch door and goes out onto the street, why can't they expose the phone line themselves and fix the issue?

I am still paying bills for broadband yet they refuse to sort out the speeds, what do i do ?

    Thanks

If the issue is your own internal cabling then it's your problem. It's up to you to expose the cabling, then you've some chance of them fixing it. Get someone local to have a look, someone ex Eircom or an electrician.

They're indicating you need to dig up the drive. Thats not something they can do on a fault callout.

    Thanks for the quick reply,

They said they would fix it once i expose the line , can i do that easily ? Or could you direct me to some sort of guide on doing this without injuring myself? Thanks man.

Hi , thanks for replying, any idea roughly of the cost of getting this done?

Upwards of a grand depending on the drive. No where near as much if you're just going to dig it out and fire down some tarmac once you're done. You'd be better off getting a few quotes.

    Are UPC (Virgin) an option?

Ill get a few quotes so then, thanks!

Nah sadly not i just searched my address and no luck but that was for their 300Mbps speeds they might be able to do a lower speed package maybe.

This depends on how exactly your dropwire enters the house. Post some pictures.

Use a picture hosting service and post the link or embed the image.

How does the phone line come into the house?

If I were you I wouldn't dig all the drive way, I would dig where the phone line comes in near the porch and cut open a section of the ducting. Then call in the fault again and with a bit of hope the tech will either be able to repair the fault or pull in a new cable from the pole up to the porch and re-route the cable into the house. Also you will not be electrocuted by the phone line

Report the fault again and find out for sure if the fault is inside or outside. If the fault is under your driveway open eir are obliged to repair/replace the cable as part of their universal service obligation. The technician wont do this but it'll be referred to contractors. If the fault is inside get an electrician to replace the internal wiring with cat 5e/6 cabling.

USO was modified and doesnt cover broadband anyways.

Force their hand and you'll get radio AFL capable of only 56k.
