Minimum planting area

    I am thinking of planting a few acres is there a minimum area you can get a grant on?
    There is 3 acres in the holding, I don't live near it so was thinking of planting Broadway in it. It is good quality and along a road. I have no green cert so is there any limitations to qualification?
    What would the time scale to first thinning also would there be any/ much yearly matience required?

    A conifer plantatation must not be less than 1 ha unless it adjoins an existing plantation, and for a broad leaf area that area must not be less than 0.1 ha.
    No qualification required, maintenance usually done by a forester who gets the job done for you and maintains the project until it passes the second grant payment.
    Time of thinning depends on the type of tree planted but for conifers once the canopy closes that's the signal that thinning can be considered. For broadleaves you look at removing the worst trees to favour the better quality trees and this depends on the species.
