What happens if you miss intreo meeting?

I have a friend who asked me what happens if he doesn't go to a intreo meeting and I said I'd try find out for him.

So basically he got a letter in post to say he has to go to a fas or a youth reach I think for a meeting explaining courses I think.

But he point blank does not want to go due to the fact he is currently seeking employment and links in with the local job centre. And has no interest in doing a course.

He is wondering will he get his payment cut? If so, how long for? And also how much as he is getting €188 at moment.

I know it's not good to miss them meetings but I said I'd find out the answers to them questions..

If he's not going he's not going.
He shouldn't need to be persuaded to do what he already contractually agreed to do when he applied for and accepted State assistance.
So he should stick to his guns then and take the consequences

A course which may open more avenues to him and possibly make him more employable. Hopefully he's cut off if he doesn't show.

I understand that but he is seeking employment not a course.

But the questions are how much will he be docked and for how long will he get docked??

It is courses for fetac level 4/5 I think but he does not want to attend anything like that as he knows he won't stick with it. That is why he is looking for employment.

That's no excuse to be honest. I was out of work for long enough myself I'd have happily taken a course if one was offered particularly if it were something of interest and a decent Fetac level.

The only issue I have with courses is that to many of them are basic learn to turn on a laptop type courses which are no use in the real world and merely a box ticking exercise for welfare officers.

If your mate doesn't take the course he deserves to be cut off.

I understand what you are all saying but I'm not here to influence him or anything as he has his mind set.

All I am here for is to find the answers to his questions. If someone could do that for me it'd be great, thanks!

FAS do employment too via CE Schemes.

Well the answer is not that straightforward unfortunately, it all depends on the officer looking after his case. They have the power to do all sorts. Suffice it to say that he will lose money and if he is genuinely unemployed then I presume he can't afford to lose money so will turn up.

It may not even be about sending him on a course.

If it's a group meeting, they'll probably just explain what courses are available should anyone attending want to go on them. Won't last long.

If it's an individual meeting, he can just explain that he's not interested in any courses that are going. Best if he can show that he's been applying for jobs. Again, shouldn't take long.

He's obliged - as it probably says in the letter - to attend any meetings that he's called in for. If he doesn't attend, they'll probably call him in for another meeting anyway - possibly after cutting his money - so it's simpler to just attend the original meeting.

Tell your friend not to get too stressed about the meeting as it's probably nothing to worry about, but tell him it is in his interests to attend it.

Posts are to be constructive and helpful on this forum. "Hope he is cut off" or "deserves to be cut off" is not the standard of message allowed here. This is to be a judgement free forum.

If he doesn't attend he'll probably get another date to attend, failure to attend that and his dole will be cut by around €44 I think.
