    Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is an android box that will run the official eir sport app? - Only interested in legal means and want to run this as I'm getting tired of looking at a laptop connected to a TV. I'm stuck in a Virgin Media would just get it from them if I could. I've heard it works on a MINIX u1 or a mk808b plus, can anyone confirm this?

don't want to buy a box that doesn't work, and have to wait a month to remove it if doesn't work.

    Thanks

Any android box will run the app. However, the question of how well it will run it is a completely different one and depends on your box, your internet and your set up in general.

You should ask in the main thread rather than starting a new one - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057446012

P.S. Don't waste your money on a mk808b as they are a load of rubbish!

Any android box won't run the app. It doesn't work on some at all, licenses I think.

Are you sure? I haven't encountered anyone having any issues with it yet....

Hadn't thought of that, didn't even know you could install android apps on a fire tv stick, is there any type of a fire stick you need?

For info, I sideloaded the eir sport app on the shield and it keeps force closing.

    Is the shield rooted ?
Maybe eir are checking root or using safetynet, which would explain why it works on some and not others.

Was a first generation stick with latest software. I am sure it would work on a 2nd gen too though.

Doesn't work on Nexbox a95 or at least I couldn't get it to work. DRM licence issues I think it was.

Going to guess it doesn't support Google WideVine Level 1 or Microsoft Playready.
Only Wetek & Mi Box support this at the moment AFAIK.

I have the Fire TV box, sideloaded the eir sport and eir tv app. Both keep force crashing when I attempt to play a channel. I get a notification about data or something over the playback and 2 seconds later I'm at the fire homescreen. Also had to buy an app so I could have a mouse on screen to use the app. Standard remote did not work.

    Hi all,

Finally got to try out the Fire Stick this evening as regards to using the eir sport app. I'm glad to report it worked for me, I uploaded the app to the fire stick straight from my android phone using an app called 'apps to fire'. However you do need mouse pointing software to input your username and password - I used 'Mouse Toggle for Fire tv', to do this which unfortunately cost €3.30. After all that it worked thankfully, picture quality is not perfect, but not bad for an android app and perfectly watchable on my connection.

I know this is a few months old but was wondering if EirSport was still working on your firestick or not?

Yes it is, was watching it this evening. Actually an upgrade of the app recently has improved picture quality.

Actually a thought, will it work on other ISPs or does it have to be on Eirs broadband?
