    I work for a nightly shift for a wage and a shift allowance.
    But when I work over time and take my holidays I just get paid for wage and I get no shift allowance. I am of the impression they should pay me shift allowance in both circumstances. I get time and a half of my wage for over time that's all.. TIA

    Nope. Shift allowance is for when you actually work shifts, not when you're out shifting ... ahh out on holiday :-)

    Holiday pay is worked out at your ordinary rate of pay.

    holiday pay is an average of your previous 13 weeks pay

    this practice is what the recession has brought us
    companies looking for every chance to cut pay

    You dont just jump on and off a shift allowance although no entitlement most decent companies will have a notice period of time - normally 30 days to take you on/off shift

    Yes, my partner gets the same when he takes holidays.

    Sounds like you're getting shafted. When I was on a stick shift, I always got the allowance applied to time off, just as if I had worked.

    Check your contract and see if its mentioned.

    Correct, so if you get standby etc, it should be included in calculating your holiday pay.

    In theory yes. I'm working shift for 15 years. Never been reduced for holidays.
    I worked in two jobs where you were paid an average of the overtime you worked with you holiday pay.
    Being entitled is one thing - how far an employee needs to or is willing to go is an other

    Thansk for ththe replies I think the general opinion is I'm not wasting my time pursueing this. I have contacted HR and hope to hear back. I don't want to bring it further but may have to all the same
