Help : Trying to get max speed from eir fiber Connection

    Hi

Looking for some advice from some of you peeps in the know about efibre and suchlike.

I signed a contract for efibre about five months ago, I am pulling 12 mb down and have no idea where i'm connected, my attenuation suggests the exchange [KRH1_E01] roughly 1.9kms away even though I have live cabinets 2 and 300ms away, Eir typically wont give me a straight answer when asked but tell me I am connected to fibre yet digiweb business checker says my line is not fibre enabled, I dunno what's up with that.

    Anyway, sorry, enough waffle.

I was hoping if my modem stats might suggest a switch to a different profile setting or is this as good as it gets for me.

    Thank's for looking.

Direct fed, closer cabs don't apply to your line.

Upstream wont reach 3Mb so you cant go above the 12_1 profile to the 18_3 profile.

Your line should do 15Mb on ADSL, could do 17Mb. Best off cancelling fibre and going back to "normal" broadband.

Ah well, could be worse I suppose, thanks a lot for your time ED E

How can you tell if you're direct fed? I recently eFiber installed having moved house and I know the previous residents had eirTV and eFiber. We're only getting 15Mb down and the KN dude did the install and said there was an issue with the port that he couldn't resolve and eir will have to fix it. We're in a rented house for 2-3 months and the owner didn't want to lose the landline or be stuck with an 18 month broadband contract, so eir helpfully suggested I take out my own broadband only account with them that I can move with us when we move again in 2-3 months time, leaving the landline account unaffected with the landlord. Who knows what port they have connected my account to or what's going on.. I've called eir support 3 times so far with no resolution. They all claim the line should support near 100mb, but don't know what's up.

That indicates the cab serving you is about 800m away. Does that correlate?

It should be a 40Mb + line, but troubleshooting a shared line like that will probably just confuse every support person you speak to.

Find out your landlords phone number and put it in here:

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply :) Cab 800m away would be about right. The KN guy reckoned the line was good for 60-70Mb but as you say I don't think support have a clue what to do. Might try them again, but since we're only here for a couple of months I might just lump it and hope when we eventually move and we're the only people using the line they'll get it right.

What I think is the landlords number (at least what's written on the phone) comes up as 100Mb on that checker. My "broadband only" number oddly comes up as "Fiber enabled: No" which is rather odd.

When I put my one in It says 30MB for fibre on the web site, but I reach speeds of around 40MB Any idea what is up with that?

As you've a CRN and a PH num linked to the same LineNum prequalling could easily be wrong. If they left a port assigned to his number and gave you a second it will read a 5m jumper loom instead of the actual pair and thus give you a false high reading.

MTAU testing is inperfect so the prequals tend to be conservative. In your case you used to rate for 40Mb but one of the monthly tests reduced you to 30Mb. If you ever change package etc you may be capped at 30Mb.

Have been reading here with interest as I'm having speed issues with my provider. How do I get the type of info regarding my line, that other posters have provided above?
Eir did check it recently & the guy showed me my actual & attainable speeds, but I'm still not getting anywhere with my provider.
    Thanks

If the testing is inperfect why does Eir or Openeir still use it? there should be better methods of testing no?

Also not going to be changing any packages until the FTTH comes in

The better method of testing is to go out monthly into each house and disconnect them, put in a reference modem, test for a few minutes, reconnect customer. For more than 1 million lines.

Sometimes whats perfect and whats practical dont converge.
