We have been married for almost 5 years and have been unsuccessful in concieveing so far.

I had my blood tests all done with GP and all are perfect.

I know I need to bite the bullet and go to see a fertility specialist and get some more conclusive tests and stop wasting time.

My big concern is my weight. I am over weight and I am working on this but it's the reason why I haven't gone yet to fertility because I expect them to turn me away and say come back when I've lost weight.

Is this the case? Will they even do IUI if you are over weight?

What would your recommendations be and where have you found the most sympathetic and friendly clinic to be in the Dublin area.

How much overweight are you? Using BMI I would have been classed as overweight, but not by much and I would be quite fit (or I was back then!) and weight was never even raised as an issue with my clinic. It was something that I was nervous about too, but it seemed not to be an issue. I have heard of people being advised to lose weight but I don't know in what circumstances that was i.e. - were they obese or was their weight causing other issues like thyroid or whatever.

My advice is to go to see someone. I regret not doing it sooner than we did as the first thing we discovered is that I have fibroids which meant surgery and recovery time and put back our ttc plans for nearly a year. Can't advise on a clinic as Im not Dublin based

Once you had the fibroids removed did you have a successful pregnancy then without ivf route?
I'm hoping there is a simple fix

Im afraid not. We had to go the IVF route, but we now have 2 healthy babas so it was more than worth it!

    Hi Annie
I guess it needs to be established if you are happy with your current weight? If you are avoiding the Dr. because you think they will bring it up, they probably will, for reasons other than fertility too. If you do want to address your weight why not make the appointment in a few months' time and join Slimming World (or whatever method you choose) in the meantime. That will give you a goal to work towards and at least at the appointment you could say you are working on it and have lost 12 lbs so far, etc, or whatever. If they see you are actively losing weight they cannot fault you and you will be feeling good having started work on your goal too. Just a suggestion, good luck whatever you choose!

    Hi there
Just read this and honestly it sounds like we are in the exact same position.
    My bmi is about 37.
Hope things work out for you

Your weight could be an issue, however I would advise start looking into things straight away. The whole process is so slow, before you even notice it 2/3 years as passed & nobody is getting younger.

Advice on clinic is firstly go to the clinic closest to where both of you work & live. If this isn't an issue go to the one that gives you the best feeling. If you end up going down the IVF road it is long & you`ll be spending a lot of time in the clinic.
If there is nothing more than a coffee shop close by that you like choose that clinic. Anything that makes the whole process more comfortable.

Either way start sooner rather than later & keep chipping away at the weight.

    Thanks all.

Yep on the Fitness and eating better already. I've lots 10lbs in three weeks so far so keeping going with it and really enjoying it too.

Do Sims do a full check like a normal Gyno? I am really hoping that it may be something simple that can be spotted with a scan and fixed.

My husband is not really wanting to go down the IVF path and I'm concerned Sims whom we have made an appointment with in Feb are going to be quite IVF driven.

    Thanks

Sims also do other methods of assisted reproduction like ovulation induction and IUI. I would highly doubt they will push you straight to IVF if not medically indicated.

I had fibroids out in 2012. (Fibriods were within the wall of my womb) I have had two pregnancies, though I miscarried one .
