Great tractors, parts can be expensive

Some rust issues, hand brakes and torque amplifier are poor,

Basically its a High - Low splitter for the transmission that allows you to speed up or slow down a little while on the move, without the need to use the clutch.

Used normally in 'High' it allows the driver to switch to a lower 'gear' as such, without clutching, if the tractor comes under load, eg when ploughing, towing heavy loads etc... a lower gear amplifies the torque, more torque means you can keep pulling!

A common trouble area in older Internationals and a system that's often simply disabled rather than repaired

Ah ok.....thanks......so basically you can change gear with out clutching

Rust is the big one on fiat. An 880 was a big tractor in its day so was more than likely bought to work hard. It's 32 years old now so you can expect plenty of wear I'd imagine.

The head/head gasket design isn't the best on them. That said they won't give issues unless the tractor has been redened.

The 90 series tractors have a more robust head design. 80-90, 90-90 etc.

NCT coming in for tractors that are used on the road. Just something to bear in mind too.

Is that for all tractors? I'm in a 1971 MF165, used for bringing home turf in summer and an occasional round bale to horses in winter. On classic insurance and tax at the moment. NCT would put us off the road for sure!!!

Does it do more than 40kmph?? because all I've read suggests that is all that will be affected and only if used in commercial operations which has yet to be defined fully.
It appears that is an optional Eu directive that Mr Ross wants to implement............
