Question re Flight pricing and Supply & Demand

    Hi!
I hope it's ok to post in this Forum.

I plan to fly to London on St Patrick's Weekend.
When I realised that Ireland v England in the 6 Nations is on in Dublin on the Saturday, I remembered my bit of basic Secondary School Economics about supply and demand and figured that, if there are several thousand extra passengers flying LON-DUB that weekend, then there may be cheaper than normal seats to be had in the other direction.

So far this hasn't proved to be the case, and I suppose it won't.

But why? Is it that most of the extra capacity is through charters, and they've made their money from their rugby customers that they can just return the planes empty?

Surely the scheduled airlines throw on a few extra flights though? But on a busy route, is it that they can still fill the extra capacity at normal rates?

    Thanks,
    /M.

P.S. Oh yeah, and I suppose I'll throw it out there ... is there any smart way to get a cheap flight in the other direction on a weekend like this, like by waiting til the last couple of days?

    Hi

In fact you answered the question yourself

    Peak demand to Dublin
    Combined with
    Peak demand to London

Holiday weekend and rugbyvweekend and addvin Cheltenham plus normal weekend traffic equals full flights and lack low fares

It's also a winter weekend and extra capacity not in scheduled winter Maintainance will be used but no bargain basement fares

    Hope this helps

BA have hand luggage only fares to London City for €56 each way and Aer Lingus have hand luggage only fares for €29.99 each way to Gatwick going out on the Thursday or Friday and coming back Sunday.

How much cheaper did you expect them to be?
