Looking to buy a diesel, I have a 07 Passat with nearly 250k on it and it hasn't been too bad to me. I'd like to get something similar, I do a 100 km commute daily on average roads, I'd like a high spec as I aim to keep the car long term and would like a bit of comfort, Bluetooth, cruise control, mp3 player, saloon or hatch back, I'd be grateful for any suggestions , thanks

I'd go with a Skoda Superb or another Passat.

Do what I did... I went from a 06 Passat to an A6 (05 first but now a 2010 model). Has everything you want, step up in the quality department, and well able to handle the mileage (I do about 1200km a week myself).

With your budget you should be able to get the newer C7 variant from 2011 onwards. I'd personally recommend a 3.0 TDI Quattro version myself :)

New shape mondeo is very comfy and very quiet. 1.5 is a bit weedy around town but good enough on the motorway

Ah but lads... while these are good cars yes, they're equivalent to his own.

I get the impression from the OP that he wants a step up which is a different segment from the above.. you're in A4/A6/5 series turf now IMO :)

Nah, I think he just wants a few toys which are commonplace these days!

    A4 at push perhaps.

I'd consider the superb but would be worried about the 1.6 engines ability drive such as big car, would like the new model but don't think I'd get a 2.0 and the extras for the 25k

Others may disagree but the A4 is 3 series territory. A Passat would be significantly bigger (I looked at an A4 at the time I bought my Passat).

The CC is a decent option though and the linked one has a decent spec, low miles, and 12 month warranty.

Maybe a Jag XF as another alternative? I took one for a spin a few months back and it wasn't a bad place to be!

I saw one lately and was impressed but would be afraid of reliability and repair costs

    With an actual engine!

Did they manage to damage both rear arches with the seatbelt?

    Doesn't inspire confidence.

Not good enough condition for a main dealer obviously. Should be a saleable car you'd imagine. I wouldn't buy an air freshener from that place

Lexus IS300h seems a nice place to spend a 100km commute.

Op take a look at the luxobarge thread. Buy yourself a seriously good car for 6k and use the remaining 19k for tax/fuel.

Why not go for a passat again, or take the logical step up the social ladder and buy an Audi as per Kaiser.

    What about an e-class?

If you have the cash, I'd be inclined to go to the UK and buy maybe an A6.

The likes of this would be in budget.

    Or another one of these

Me too. With the rate of sterling low, there are some seriously good deals available. Maybe have a look at Cargiant.co.uk as they have a huge stock to select from. I'd be looking for something with very low mileage but not necessarily almost new....

    Maybe something like this:

    https://www.cargiant.co.uk/car/audi/a4/MT63JPJ

By my reckoning, it would come in well under budget....around 19400 to buy, 3900 in VRT and add about 500 to get it back on the ferry....

The stuff listed in the original post. You don't need to go to a premium car to get more toys than an older Passat.

Leather seats and a sat navigation would be a waste on me , heated seats, parking sensors , cruise control, mp3, Bluetooth are what I'm looking for, very tempted alright by the A6's posted. The new superb with a high spec maybe the style looks good but a 161 might only be in range next year and the 1.6 engine might not be strong enough

    Volvo S80 might suit.

Go electric with an Ioniq, i3, eGolf etc. Save an absolute bomb on fuel with a daily 100km commute.
Plenty of poke, comfort and all the toys you'd want plus preconditioning. No need to de-ice and you'll have a toasty warm car ready for you when leaving.

    2L Superb Estate in UK.

    €19600 to buy.
    €5200 to vrt.

    The rest for travel/transport.

Buckets of comfort and room. No heated seats though and you would need to check the month of registration to make sure it is 6 months or older....and you would need them to put another 3k miles on the clock for you, or near to. Not bad for a new car.

Seconded. Diesel/Petrol is about 10-12 times the price of electricity, maintenance on a combustion car is ridiculous and EVs are much more fun to drive.

My commute is double the OPs and I save about €7k a year. Unless your commute is super-short, longer than ~200km or you have a special requirement like towing or carrying more than 5 passengers you should be looking at an EV.

    All well over 25k though.

Nope, you'd pick up any of those for 25k. Scrappage on an Ioniq brings the price to about 25k. eGolf have a new model due so big discounts available. The i3 ok you would need to go 2015, maybe 2016 but not really an issue. OP is looking at nearly new. He could actually go brand new with an EV.
