Overcharged for hotel reservation

I enquired by email about reserving an extra night at a hotel, they would me a price and said it would be deducted from my card which was fine.

I now see they have charged me twice what they quoted. I got in touch and they said they will reimburse some of the overpayment but not all as it's deposits etc. These extra charges were not mentioned previously. Shouldn't I by right be charged only what I was quoted?

If the same charge is listed twice one should automatically drop off after a few days. The first charge is a placeholder more or less the second being the actual charge.
