Hey all, looked at BMW 3 series today and it came with brand new Firemax tyres in the rear and Ketel tyres in the front, possibly these Ketel were a type of firemax because I can't find anything about them online. He put new 19" alloys on the car to make it easier to sell as the old 16" wheels on it were in rough nick. Pic below. Justwondering are these tyre brands safe

Think the fact nothing comes up when you google them tells you how good they are, if you buy better budget changing them, plus if the rims are not a reasonable brand they are liability as well.

If you cant find anything on google about them then you can safely assume theyre the cheapest tyres he could find in order to be able to say the car has new tyres. If your interested in buying the car then budget for a set of new tyres also.

They will undoubtedly be crap. Come back in an hour and this thread will be 7
    pages long.
16 inch tyres are relatively cheap even with a decent brand.

Typical replica alloy wheel package deal that comes with cheap no name tyres. I think you know the answer to this one.

And at least 1 special "expert" will tell you their great tyres and theres no need to buy a trusted brand-name tyre!!

I'd be quite worried about what else on that car was done on the cheap considering the tyres.

If it was a micra i'd understand, but that's not a budget car, it shouldn't be treated as one.

I'd imagine the wheels are Shiite replicas too.

screams of a 'wheel and tyre package' job from a budget website.

Thanks, ive asked for a receipt of purchase on these and asked are they OEM or another brand. He said he got them for £570 in Newry off a friend who runs a wheel place, I must ask the name of it. I dont mind as long as they are considered a decent replica brand online and I budget a few hundred for some better tyres. Hopefully I get some clarification.

In yer experience are most replicas of poor quality?

£570 for 4 wheels and tyres in 19's , you would get 4 decent tyres, fitting/balancing and lunch for that money , no way are they of decent quality

2012, €14300-15k , 60-70k miles, Irih reg, its a decent price but if I buy ill prob end up buying different wheels and have to sell them, a lot of hassle I couldn't be bothered with

Lol I thought the same, but when happy with the car I naively convince myself "ah sure he knew your man he might have got a great deal on these" but need to bring myself back down to earth on a purchase this big

He has a load of old vans for sale. Is he the original owner? There's only 1 owner on the book.

You won't buy OEM 19" rims and decent brand tyres for anywhere near 1k not to mind £600. Seems to be very common for premium branded cars either coming from the North or on sale there to be fitted with large replica wheels. Probably to appeal to the more younger buyer.

One owner in England then he put 8000 miles on it himself. Said he put the new alloys on it on advice from a friend to make it easier to sell, he text back there to say they are replicas alright and will let me know when he finds the receipt. He did seem pretty honest in fairness, now I just need to figure out are they complete dogshlt of replicas or not, judging from this thread they are are.

He can put the originals wheels back on but they didn't look to be in the best of shape but could be better off with them. I'll have to look at them again

I'd be wary of the mileage. Check that if you're any way serious about buying.

Thanks. I may sound naive again but is clocking a BMW F30 an easy thing to get done? The VRT cert had 59000 miles approx on it in March 2016.

Is bringing the car to a BMW dealer the only place to get the mileage checredit or can a vehicle assessor do it? He seemed very open to me having someone take a look at it.

    Is there a service history?

Clocking is usually done after it's bought in the uk and before the NCT.

All cars are easy to clock.

Ask him for the English Reg it previously had. Throw the Reg in here: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ It'll tell you the mileage at recent MOT's to give you an idea.

Would the the front tyres be Keter by any chance? They are Chinese.

My OH recently went out to get new tyres for the front of her car. She wanted something in the medium price range, definitely not the cheapest on offer. She came back from the garage with these Keters which the seller highly recommended.

After a month's driving on them in various conditions, I can say that they'll be getting changed for something better before January is out.

If it's a nordie car that won't work. Different mot setup there compared to mainland.

Is it me or does that disc need replacing too...?

Firemax are made in China, even Google's never heard of Ketel tyres!! Ditchfinders if you ask me,the 3 series being RWD and having a bit of poke should be fun in the wet on these!

Never heard of Ketel myself OP, but you should be fine if the tread is good on them. Drive them until worn and then get anything good value of your choice, so certainly nothing to worry about in your decision on the car.

(There is no such thing as a 'ditchfinder' by the way, thats just a snob term encouraged by the big advertising budget brands to sell you overpriced tyres)

Only took him 2 months to get here.

But he made it all the same.

    Fair play
