Blocking unused chimney with a pillow/blanket

I have a fireplace in my living room which is unused, and I suspect allows a lot of warm air to escape from the room.

Would it be okay to shove a pillow or a blanket up there to cut down on heat loss? There is a passive air vent on the wall in the same room.

    Google 'chimney balloon'.

If there is a room vent, it is o.k. (probably a good idea) to close off unused open fire/flue.
