Usually you have to pay the outstanding tax and bring proof of insurance to collect it from the pound, also have to pay the daily fee which is something like €75-€100 a day.

I thought he was dead too. I didn't realise he was down the country somewhere driving people around. However in this case I think the OP's autocorrect might be as adverse to the NCT as she is.

Wasn't there a three or four page discussion here just yesterday about one not being covered on owned vehicles.

We're you covered by insurance or not? It's not very clear.

Get it back so it will cost you but will also help you when you're up in court.

Have you ever been done for motor related offence before and roughly what age are you?

If the car was in your name then, given the other thread, it will be no insurance also. I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to travel IIRC crimes that cause a problem would need an element of moral turpitude, so I would resist any temptation to lie about anything - that could be much worse.

Not worth €200 but you felt it was still roadworthy and safe?

No tax and no NCT, can the car be insured?

You said in your first post it was you're first offence, now you're saying it's second

I think you're in for a hefty deserved fine.

Serial offender. I hope they throw the book at you before anything more serious happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Skatedude

K, car was in your name, so your mothers insurance would not apply unless it was in her name.

If you are a named driver on your mothers policy, then you can drive her car, but not your own without you own insurance policy.

They could throw the book at you, but just stick to the truth and they may go easy as they could see it as a misunderstanding.

Unless you get your own insurance, then you will probably need to re-register your car under your mothers name, but that may not work as they now know it was actually yours and it's considered "fronting" and is not allowed any more.

Only for Losty discovering the previous thread I would tend to agree with you.

That's what I mean though. Is there a boards version of Munchausen? If so I think I have it too.

All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me - consciously or unconsciously. That's to be expected :D:D:D

What's the rationale for having no tax or nct??

    Is your car roadworthy?

Is the car in such poor condition that it would fail nct and therefore not possible to tax??

The government will still want the tax money, hence why they haven't prevented people with non NCT'd cars getting it. I had a shed of a car once, wouldn't pass an NCT in a million years, I taxed it, kept booking the NCT for a few weeks down the line and got a verbal warning once. I do not condone what I did, it was in 2006. A lot has (hopefully) changed in some regards since then.
