We're considering a first trip to Croatia this summer, don't really know much about the country. Relations have been to Dubrovnik and enjoyed it, but the northern part looks nice too as does Split region.

We'd probably go with an apartment and rent a car for some day trips.

Any advice? 15 and 19 y-old on tow!

Have only been to Dubrovnik but I'd recommend it for all the family.
It's a pretty cool spot especially if there into Game of thrones. The old town and harbour are special and Islands are there for a few adventures. We don't some kayaking and a fee boat journeys which were nice also.

If renting a car you can drive to Split in 3 hours iirc and also montenegro is fairly close. Split would have the advantage of being cheaper and less touristy. Hvar is a lovely island, you could stay there for a few days. I wouldn't spend longer than 4 days in dubrovnik. It's quite expensive and small but a really lovely place.

Thanks Tyson - having done a bit more research Dubrovnik and possibly a few days in Montenegro might be the way to go, might look at Hvar as well so. We'll have a car so intend to do some travelling either way.
