    Hi
    was wondering does the social welfare office still give you a payment when you are working a backweek in a new job??

    No it doesn't.

    In order to claim the dole you have to be available for and seeking work.

    I dunno but the one time I had to claim I got a job about a week but I wasn't paid till the end of the month and as my previous company had gone into liquidation I didn't get my final pay packet I had no choice but to claim for that month till I got paid, otherwise I wouldn't have been able pay for petrol for the drive to work or buy food for the family.

    There is supplementary welfare payments available for your situation.

    contact the Department of Social Protection's representative, (formerly known as the Community Welfare Officer) at your local office...
