Stainless steel handrail

Hey folks,

I need to purchase a piece of stainless steel pipe/tubing. It will be used as a handrail for a small balcony. Ideally it would be sealed at either end but if it was open it's not the end of the world. If I needed to get this fabricated/cut, roughly what type of money would I need to be spending?

Measurements are as follows

3600mm length
50mm diameter(approximately)
3 - 4mm wall thickness (approximately)

But standard lengths seem to be 3.6m whereas the wooden one Ive taken off the wall was 4.1m so maybe I have an extra stair or two more than the standard?

So thinking I'll have to get them made up by a steel fab company rather than leaving both ends 25cm short, its not much but I think it would stick out on the finished job if I used 3.6m

You can purchase 2" stainless steel pipe, sometimes called dairy tube from lots of suppliers. I used this for my own handrail and it worked very well. From memory, it comes in 5m lengths.

It was about €60. I had access to a lathe so i just turned some 50mm aluminum into end caps and purchased some stainless steel brackets from ebay. People often comment on how well it looks.

Thanks for that, another company to check out and the price seems very reasonable. Would you say the finish of the tubes you got is pretty industrial or is it polished?

You can get end caps which just friction fit in the ends.

e.g. these (but I'm not sure if the size is exactly right for dairy tube)

Finish is perfect, they were in plastic and perfectly straight.
