My sky bill has just gone through the roof and before i ring them i was wondering is there any box that will run off a sky dish with a proper variety of channels without the need of half decent internet??

Assume all the proper dodgy boxes need fairly decent internet?

    Thanks

    (Cant discuss dodgy boxes here)

My virgin media bill also went thru the roof. So i got a free to air and saorview system installed and we're delighted. I have the amiko combo mini, one downstairs and one upstairs.

The majority of channels are available free and some in HD too. Have channels i never had (itv1,2,3,4). Rte, bbc's, itv's, e4, more 4. You'll get the full list with a google search.

Use Netflix for the kids programmes. The initial outlay is quickly recouped. I dont think id ever go paid tv. I miss some discovery channel but sure beggars cant be choosers!

A combo box combines UK and Irish channels on one box. So you can plug the sky dish feed straight into the box but you will need to get an aerial for the Irish channels. An outdoor is always a better option but you could try an indoor if you wish.

Lots of combo STBs out there so you need to determine what your requirements are ..... do you need recording or not, and if yes how many concurrent recordings etc.

If you want multiroom then a slightly different STB would be required with client devices or smart TVs in each room.

Lots of choice for a once off payment and no subscriptions thereafter.
