Electric fencing for sheep

Lads going fencing about 1500m for sheep wondering if could use a second strand of electric and what height is best?. Have a mains fencer with plenty of juice and hedges are maintained.

I know could use the grant etc but would be alot cheaper with electric.
Grant max cost is €5.20 /m so 40% or 60% in mine as YTF of that. My contractor quoting over 7 plus vat/m/

Don't see why couldn't go 3 if good fencer and properly earthed, always find 2 hit & miss with sheep

You get the vat back, €7 seems steep. If you did it yourself you get paid for you own time

I bought materials myself and paid contractor €1.25/m to put it up

Use electric for dividing a field here - 2 strands does the job, but with small lambs, you'd be better off with 3. But its not a permanent job.

I don't think it cant be compared with sheep wire. Is the 1500m boundary, or field sub-division?
If boundary or even internal fencing, against a ditch, I wouldn't go electic. And if you can get a 60% grant to put up sheep sire, I would definitely go for it.

lads i have a 4 acre meadow i need to fence for a short while would i be able to get that electric fencing in a few 100 metres or not and what is it like

500m boundary against a good thorn hedge the rest is internal some against gappy hedges. The quote was for pdm posts with tinsley wire and row of tinsley electric and barbed on top.

Have three strand electric in a small section( its just used up against some farm roads and yards.with no hedges or vegation) and nothing seems to get past it but wonder how work if was nice grass the far side.

Sounds like I need to borrow yet more money! assume its the usual story payout and claim back grant and vat.

Cannot easily do it myself as 1 man farming with some casual help.
