Moving the light fittings

    I have a new build house with quite a large kitchen. A the time we moved in, we weren't 100% where we wanted the kitchen table, so didn't notice where the overhead light was being placed. Now that we've the place a bit more established, the overhead light is about a half meter off-centre of the kitchen table. Is it a big job to get this relocated?

    It's usually not a big job, however you may get caught out with stuff like access to the ceiling above, way rafters are running, anything above the ceiling, etc.

    You may also have an issue with the hole left behind - is it a pendant or a downlighter?

    If I was you I would replace the existing light with one of those long pendant types, you may be able to leave the cable where it is and still center the light over the table.

    We've just a plain pendant hanging there at the moment. Want to get something nice over the kitchen table but was going to center it before we put something permanent.

    What is the first floor make up?
    Ie is there an opportunity to lift a floor board?

    The new location needs to have a support as well to take the fitting screws so the half meter will be defined eventually by being near a joist and not by absolute geometry, aka herself:D.

    First floor is carpeted, would prefer not to take that up.
