Just a question about the drugs payment scheme and mods please move to relevant section.

We are a married couple who are on the above scheme and I have the following question.....Can the one card be used by two chemists ie we live in tipperary where wife will live.i am moving to Dublin for work and will need access to chemist without having to pay 140 euro per month in 2 chemists..
Hope I am making my question clear?

    Thanks

Unfortunately not, the Drugs Payment Scheme caps household drug spending at €144 per month in any one pharmacy. You can submit receipts to the HSE for a refund for any extra paid over the 144 in a month in different pharmacies, though this probably wouldn't be a workable solution long term.

It caps it at 144 per month provided it's in one chemist.
If you go to a different one, that chemist has no idea of knowing how much you've spent already.

However there is a form you can get that allows you to claim back at the end of the start of the next month money that you've spent over the 144. The form is available from your local health office.
Quite a few people are claiming back the excess where they're paying 144 a month for their medication and renting a sleep apnea machine elsewhere.

Thanks.not renting a machine but it's awkward if I need medication mid month when I have to pay in Dublin and claim back later. Would the likes of boots be able to work a one card system?

No one can work a one card system.
The hse don't know what you've paid for January until the pharmacy sends that claim at the start of February

If there's a group with a pharmacy near your home town and in Dublin then perhaps they could work something out between them but most would be separate companies which adds to the difficulty

I do agree, it's quite awkward alright

Will you be returning to Tipp when you're not working, at weekends etc? Get your wife to order, pay for & collect your prescriptions at the start of the month & pick the months supply up when you see her. If you were working weekdays you'd only need a 4 or 5 day supply at the most to tide you over.
Or maybe your pharmacy in Tipp could fill your prescription & send it to your local pharmacy of choice in Dublin. They might be able to work something out regarding transport between them if you asked.

Hi, can I use the form you linked, if I'm not yet into the DPS?
Sent the form 3 weeks ago and no reply yet.

    Cheers

    Unfortunately I don't know.
However if you're going to go over the 134 in the calendar month, your pharmacy can emergency register you for a dps card there and then.

I'd get in touch with the PCRS and ask them what the story is. It's simply a case of putting you on to the system and I have came across it numerous times where the number has been processed but the card hasn't been sent out.

Hi horse7, it certainly used to be the case that they issued a cheque, but it's been a while since I encountered this so it may have changed.
