Irish Paramedic abroad

I am currently considering a 4 year paramedic course in Limerick and wish to work outside Ireland upon completion having been registered as a PHECC Paramedic. I have been advised to study in England and become registered there as it is of higher standard, that it is the equivalent to being an advanced paramedic in Ireland.
If I wish to work in another country which direction is more advisable? Do other countries recognise PHECC paramedics at the same level in their system?

Moved from LC Careers Discussion ... I have a feeling the good people in this corner of Boards would have a far better idea about this!

    Hi,

I can't speak for every country as they all have different licensing and registration requirements.

If i believe correctly the UL course will output irish paramedics who will then be eligible to transfer to AP status after a period of time? Although the course is only going to be getting started so some things certainly unclear.

If you do paramedic in UK and look to come back you need to get registered with
PHECC who look on a case by case basis

Here in Ireland we have EMT's , Paramedics and AP's working on Ambulances

In the Uk they have Ambulance Technicians (the equivelent to Paramedics over here) and Paramedics in the UK are in the standard of Advanced Paramedics over here, so you are cortect in saying that.

I do believe you have to do your clinical ambulance placements over in the uk for this course. It is a bsc which would entitle you to apply to the hpc for registration as a paramedic in the uk(and possibly n.ireland) unfortunatly it will only lead to irish paramedic licencing which is disapointing after 4 years of hard work and study.
