Screen calibration with a Spyder 3

    Hi Folks

    Happy New Year to all.

I have a problem. I've been told by many people that I should calibrate the screen of my PC, so I recently bought a Spyder 3 unit on Ebay.

Ive tried using it twice but each time, I think the screen ended up with a yellow colour in the photo's. I eventually figure how to go back to original, but I would like to have it calibrated correctly.

    Any help appreciated

If you followed the calibration instructions it's probably fine. Calibrators tend to add a lot of warmth as most monitors have quite a cold colour cast.

Stick with it for a few days, you're probably just not accustomed to seeing your images this way yet.

Are these images that you have edited prior to calibration? If so they will have been altered with the screen out of calibration.

Try loading a calibration image. Calibration Chart Download (5Mb)

The Spyder is excellent from my own experience it can make a big difference. You will find the colours of your photos are more consistent so what you shoot on the camera is what you get on the PC/Mac and then finally on the printer.

It's possible that the person who sold that spyder did so specifically because it was causing a yellow tint. If the colorimiter in the unit has become defective (or was defective from the start) or has somehow ended up with a blue cast to any piece between the screen and the colorimiter, it would cause a yellow tint.

Another question is: Are you seeing a yellow tint on-screen, in printed photos, or both? If on-screen only, then is it just on YOUR calibrated monitor, or is it on any monitor OTHER than your calibrated monitor?

Do you have another calibrated monitor to check the results against?

Ive tried the Spyder on a few different PC's with the same result.

I havnt tried printing any of the images with the yellow cast.

Maybe it was faulty before I bought it .

I'm on the lookout for a Spyder 4. As soon as I get one and load it I'll let you know the results.
