Getting back into QA/Testing

    Hi,

Am looking for suggestions/advise please! :-)

My company downsized a month ago and I was made redundant, I was an IT Support/Administration and everything IT basically within the company, was with them for 7 years, but before that was in QA (QA Tester/Lead/ Did some Test PM too was in a few different companies) for over 10 years.

Reason I left QA, I always wanted to do some IT support/Admin get some direct end customer experience under my belt but after a year or so move back to QA with that experience, but as things went on I stayed for a number of reasons.

As I'm now on the scratcher for the 1st time, I'm thinking of doing a testing course (Covers SDLC, I presume waterfall and agile/Testing/Automation/Database fundamentals) although I have a Degree in IT I'm sure the course would help. Am trying to get back into a QA/Tester role, but it's been a long time. Anybody any suggestions as to how to crack getting back into QA or like experiences?

Also if anybody has any experiences with a Tester Course and/or was it useful? I know QA/Testing has changed a LOT in that time. If I have to truck along the IT Support/Admin route I will, bills to pay 'n' all that, but am thinking this is the perfect time to get back into QA and do something I really want to do.

    Any all suggestions gratefully welcome!!

I recently left a QA role to go travelling. Joined as a graduate and worked in test automation for two years there. The company provided a lot of certification courses, ISTQB and Certified Agile. If you don't already have ISTQB, I'd recommend doing the Foundation and then advanced one. However, if you have good experience my previous company, for example, may still hire you without these certs (they have hired others before). They will then pay for you to do these courses.
If you need specifics please feel free to PM me.

Thanks! Will send a PM. It's a long time since I looked at any automation so will need to look at this 1st possibly. Thanks again & enjoy the travelling.

    Hi

I am nearly complete with the course I am doing, and there's a 1 month works experience part of it, starting Sept.

I have covered C&G software Test II(Distinction) and III (Distinction) , Microsoft SQL (95%), and am sitting the ISTQB in 2 weeks. Would be grateful if anybody knows of anywhere that would be open to someone who already has experience in QA but a few years ago, it's for a 4 week stint.

    Thanks! :-)
