I have a few oak trees that I have grown from seed. They are pot bound but I was hoping to plant them out at some point. Any suggestions on what I could do with them?

? transplant them to bigger pots? What size are they in now? If they get too rootbound they may be reluctant to do anything when they get planted out.

They are in bigger pots now. I was more thinking would someone want them or would they be useless. I think they are in 5 gallon pots. The biggest one is about about 2m and the others are around 1m.

There aren't many Tidy Towns groups in Dublin, but Skerries and Clondalkin are two that spring to mind. They have a wildlife/biodiversity role and may have a few areas planted up with native species- it would be worth contacting the nearest one to you. National Tree Week is coming up in March so they may have some treeplanting events on. The Tree Council organise NTW so keep an eye on their website for listed events.

Thats great. How long do you think they'd be let grow before harvesting.

Will they grow well though if they've been potbound for so long? I thought you were meant to plant oaks out in the ground within a few months after germination so they can develop a strong tap root?

They will be fine. Think of all the large oaks one sees for sale in plant nurseries in tiny pots. These were in large pots with a good root system.
