    Hi,

Thinking of attending a hygienist in the near future but not sure where to start. Firstly I have a dental phobia and haven't visited a dentist in 20 years (yes, you read that right).

I look after my teeth pretty well and have no fillings but at 40 years old they have yellowed a little and there is some staining from when I used to smoke.

Anyway, not too sure where to start or even exactly what hygienists do so any help / advice would be appreciated plus recommendations for the South Dub area, preferably D14/16/18.

    Cheers.

    Recommendations by PM only.

Dental hygienists cannot legally treat patients directly, without a referral from a dentist (not necessarily working in the same practice).
It would be akin to taking your car for a service to the valet, as opposed to the mechanic.

So you'll need to book a checkup with a dentist firstly- to assess for decay, periodontal disease, oral cancer screening (vital if you're an ex-smoker).
