I'm looking to install solar panels and get my friend who is a handy man fit them , i already have the big tank and my house is south facing and am looking to have hot water for power showers for most of the year.
What would be the best solar panels for what I want and where would be the best place to buy them, I can travel to the north or the uk to get them.
    Thanks in advance.

Get a plumber that knows what he's doing. It's not a job for bob the builder handyman IMO

As above, well said, is not DIY job unless you know what you doing.I didn't know,i learned and did it.
First, check online and look for info. Get as much as you can digest :)

Solar panels are PV solar panels (electricity)and solar tubes(hot water).
Solar tubes systems are ok for most of the year but in the winter months you will need to complement it with a scondary source in order to get the water at over 50".

Your "big tank" may not be suitable for the solar as it needs to have a dual coil system installed inside.
If you have to keep your big tank, then for each 100l of tank you can get 10 solar tubes on the roof.
You will need full system commisioned:installed top of the roof AND hot press, setup internal (piping and electrical),boiler linked and then the system pressurised.

Read HERE for more info and feedback .

    Have fun.

Just wondering what a plumber would charge to fit tubes for a 300l tank and how much would I get from the grant.

Pretty sure the plumber would need to supply & fit for the grant. Ring around and get a few prices
