    Can anyone recommend cheap software?
It's a small company with creditors and vat. No stock control or complex cash flow requirement. Nominal ledger to show what's needed by the accountant to prepare accounts for tax.

Also I would like a bookkeeper to be able to access it or access a copy of it from home to post invoices and bank transactions.

I'd recommend Surf Accounts, or Big Red Book. Both are online and accessible for bookkeeper/accountant and has all the standard reports required for completing accounts. They are simple and straight forward to use. We have moved some of our clients onto Surf Accounts, as all the info is easily imported into our accounts production Relate within the practice.

    Hi Tina

Have you considered outsourcing the work, there are a number of suppliers out there at the moment. Might take away some headaches?
