So I'm wondering ... other than Americans living here or Irish living there and sporting their 'home' town...

How have people come to support the team they support?

Is it it the nostalgia of seeing a team winning SB way back?

Were you in a city in the states on a 2 week holiday?

Have you been to a game and were hooked?

Did you buy a shirt in a show that you like the look of and found out the team is actually decent?

    ...

    I'm intrigued is all...

Went to Orlando, son wanted an NFL jersey, let him pick whatever he wanted.
    Chose a Jacksonville Jaguars jersey.
So decided I'd start following them this year

    That's it :)

Chargers fan, came to follow the chargers thanks to the great LT, was in college in 05/06 and used to be watching clips on YouTube instead of paying attention, his style of running and how he always made it about his teammates when interviewed, I remember the first full game I watched on tv was the chargers saints in London, never been to a nfl game but had a chance to get tickets to London last year, but didn't take them as I would like to make the first game I attend a chargers game either London or San Diego,

When I started following American football Ken O'Brien was the QB, Pat Leahy was the kicker and the team wore green. Sure the Jets were practically Irish, why wouldn't I support them? Well apart from years of chronic underachieving, that is.

I'm a Redskins fan and while I can't remember the exact moment or the reason why, I do know it was at the time when C4 started showing games around the time of the Bears/Pats Super Bowl.

As they were relatively successful in those days they were probably shown more than other teams so as a kid I jumped on their bandwagon and haven't been able to get off since.

I lived in Cape Cod for 2 years, long ago, and fell in love with the Red Sox and Celtics. A passing interest in the Pats has evolved into watching them with eagerness every Sunday, albeit via Sky.

Have always liked a few NFL teams although I was never an avid watcher so I had never settled on supporting one in particular till recently. I started getting more into NFL over the last number of years and after looking into a few different teams I ended up picking the Packers. I really liked what they are about. Small town, with a big stadium, owned by the fans and a great history.

Worked in Michigan for a number of summers and firstly fell in love with college football - the rivalries are brilliant. So started out following the Michigan State Spartans (when they were little brother) as my friends were all going to MSU. Decided to stay with the state I loved so much and the Lions became my NFL team.

I'm a cowboys fan, decided on them being my team from waaay back when my folks used to watch Dallas the american soap opera on the TV, in the intro there was an aerial shot of texas stadium showing the endzone with the cowboys logo... as a sports mad youngster I was fascinated by this & when C4 started their coverage in the early to mid 80's (bears v pats being my first SB) it was an easy decision to pin my support to the Dallas mast...

I'm a bears fan... my mams family moved to chicago so unfortunately they are who i got stuck with.

If i had a do-over i'd be a Browns fan. Love them, they are such a mess of an organisation that when they do get it right it will be some year, on top of that the history is as rich as any team.

just like a previous poster..had been following the nfl a good few years back when rte2 used to show an hour's highlights on a monday evening!
Having seen all the teams, I just liked the packers. no funfare or dramatics with them, down to earth franchise..they win some they lose some
if i had to choose a 2nd team...i'd go for baltimore, read a good book, forget who it was written by,but the spent a season inside with the ravens, good read

Had an uncle move to Jersey, he shared a house with a guy that brought him to a Jets game and he was hooked. Every xmas without fail I would be sent some sort of Jets paraphernalia. Eventually family went out to visit him for a holiday, he brought me to a game and the rest is history. That was in '95 against the Fins, they won two other games that season! The following season they won 1 game, acquired the number 1 pick(the 2nd in two years) then traded it to the Rams who selected HOFer Orlando Pace, they then traded out of the number 6 spot with the Seahawks who selected HOFer Walter Jones!! It was at this point I should have known to give up on these sh1theads!

I started liking the idea of following NFL a few years back, I got a Madden game to help with learning the rules etc and decided it would make it more interesting if I supported a team. I looked into the teams and I really like the way the Packers operate, the fact the team is owned by the fans and is run as a not-for-profit, the fairly low drama nature of the team and how they prepare for games, and the long history was a bonus. I also love cold weather, so a cold weather team was high on my list.

In the AFC I support the Jags, simply because of the London connection and I might as well chose a lower end AFC team. I kinda grudgingly follow the drama of the Browns, just for the craic. :pac:

Slightly off topic, when I see this thread title, all I want to do is yell "Wildcats" :p

(Yes, I'm referring to High School Musical, no I'm not embarrassed, and yes it probably identifies me as one of the few women in the forum, just to be stereotypical, like. :pac::pac::pac:)

Lived in Boston for a while in the 90s and really got into American sports while there...so it has always been the Pats and the Red Sox.

Have to admit having a fondness for the Steelers and my NFC team are definitely the Packers.

Exactly this for me too with Dallas

Watched Marcus Allen and Jim Plunkett disect the Redskins in Superbowl XVIII ( I think ) in or around 1982 and became a 'Skins fan that night.

The Hogs in the OL supported by John Riggins, Joe Theismann Art Monk and Downtown Charlie Brown were great to watch back in the day.

There have been a few good years, most of which were so long ago it's hard to remember that they hammered Elway's Broncos in '88 and Jim Kelly's Bills in '91.

Since then not much to shout about unfortunately.

    I started this thread ..

I've a Mannings Colts jersey purely because we were in USA on honeymoon and I'd a habbit of buying a jersey where ever I go ... liked the look of the mannings colts shirt.

I had no interest in the NFL at the time ( i didnt even know the Colts won the SB later that year), tbh I was always more interested in NBA (got to catch a preseason game at the garden on honeymoon + got a Curry Knicks Jersey) ...

At this point I've watched the last 2 SB's live and this season is the first time I've watched the 'BBC highlight' show through out the regular season, and I watched 3 of the 4 games on wildcard weekend ...(I know why only 3 :D)

I'm taking a shine to the Packers .... I reckon this is where my loyalties are going to have to be.

Eagles fan because I spent my J1 summer in Southern New Jersey and it's all Philly teams down that way.

The Phillies were on a bit of a decent run in the baseball while I was there and I got into it a bit. So when NFL caught my eye and I started to pay it some attention it made sense to stick with the City of Brotherly Love!

It helps that they are a bit shít, but not so shít that you have zero hope going into each season.

Moved to Maine on an 18 month J1 back in Spring 2001. Having followed a little bit of NFL in the 80s, I took an interest in the Pats, but recall not much was expected from them that season. Got into watching the games Sunday afternoons on NESN and remember Brady coming in for Drew Bledsoe and then just got swept along on that wave and it has remained that way ever since. Funny, but the Red Sox were a much more popular franchise in New England and probably still are.

Some great memories of that year, the arrival of Brady, Bledsoe coming back in for a play-off game, the Oakland snow game, was it Troy Brown running for, catching and throwing for a touchdown all in one game. Also attended the victory parade in my City. Think it was Teddy Bruchi and Lawyer Milloy with the Lombardi trophy on a firetruck down the main street.

Have definitely lucked out in the successful team respect.
