Family holiday recommendations for new year 2017

I know Christmas is just over but I'm looking for any recommendations for a family holiday abroad leaving Ireland around the 27 December for a week or so.

We have 2 kids who'll be 6 & 5 by then. We've always spend Christmas at home but thought it would be nice to get away for New Years.

Was thinking sunshine so maybe Lanzarote / Canary Islands but would it be too quiet then ? I've looked online but not many options available for 27-28 December.
Also Would the pools be warm enough to swim ? Would there be entertainment?

Can somebody please recommend somewhere suitable pref within Europe

    Thanks in advance

Canary Islands are busy at Christmas too - Lanzarote would be perfect for what you are looking for.

Canary Islands is quieter than the height of the season but still busy enough. Pools weren't warm enough for me to swim the Christmas we went although the kids didn't mind. It was lovely and sunny but the year just gone I heard wasn't brilliant. It's a risk anywhere I suppose but any of the canary islands are definitely your best bet if you want sunshine. Mainland Spain and Portugal can be quite cold.

I don't know if it's the same on the rest of the islands in the Canaries but I believe Christmas and new year just gone was pretty full on Lanzarote with very little availability for accommodation other than private rentals which only served to push prices up. I saw queries on a few Lanzarote FB pages where folks were getting cheap flights and then discovering they couldn't afford the accommodation that was available. Most replies were

A lot of restaurants which were open in hotels or out on their own were fully booked for Christmas dinner. Some had two sittings to try accommodate as many as possible.

I'd recommend, if you are thinking of this, to book as early as you can for a better choice.

Thanks for that - at the moment flights are not cheap and a package holiday in an apartment is approx €2700. I'll keep an eye out for hotels with any deals. I think a hotel would have a better atmosphere than apartments ?

This year was the first time we have not gone away after Christmas day. Normally fly into Lanzarote. We have always bought our own fligths and hotels etc. Last time we booked apartment from done deal. Was great

The issue is now Lanzarote has become really popular, the woman we stayed with says it is mental now, she is booked up till March this year and flights etc have gone through the roof.

I was thinking of trying to book for next year now but the problem is flight sale normally dont start till later this year
