hey lads, been having some serious connectivity issues with my 18mb eir fibre connection lately. Tbh i have no idea whats wrong, and its completely wrecking my head.

We live in a fairly big bungalow (built 4 years ago) and the f2000 modem is at one end of the house. Because of this we are using 2 tplink av500 powerline adapters in the house to get both wifi and a hardline into my pc.
For the last month or so i am getting constant "connected but no internet" issues with my devices. Sometimes i am getting internet on a device in a room while i cant get it on something else in that room. Or i could be doing great and id get disconnected out of nowhere and it would take a hard reset of the modem to get a connection back.

I might be able to use the internet on my pc while others in the house cant use it at all. Theres times ive gone right next to the modem with my phone after not being able to get any connection at one end of the house and il get a connection and other times it seems the whole network is down.

There is a dreambox (tv type thing) in the house that was connected via some other brand of powerline adapter, ive since removed that, seemed to make things better for a while, but sure enough the same issues kept popping back up.

For the last 2 weeks there has been more usage than normal with people staying over and what not (2 android boxs, xbox, pc, phones), would that explain the disconnecting problem?

I am generally pretty good at figuring these things out but i am completely confused as to whats wrong. I would love to just run a massive Ethernet cable from one end of the house to the other but where the modem is placed (thanks eir) stops me from doing it tidily.

At this stage i am thinking it has to be on eirs end but thats just a guess :o

    any ideas or suggestions?

What is connecting via wifi and what is using LAN cables? Have you tried everything on WIFI?

not sure what i have and havnt tried at this point haha, but il try that now see if it makes any improvement. would having some devices connected to the powerline adapters via Ethernet cause issues with wifi?

Try updating the LAN drivers on all devices which are wired, see if that helps. Other than that try one LAN device at a time with the rest WIFI to see which is causing problems.

Plug something direct into the modem and test from there. It's impossible to test through homeplugs without establishing your line is ok. Post the line stats from your modem with everything else disconnected

Ok ill try that, How do I check my line stats?

Login to your modem, the dsl synchronisation information is what you are looking for

TBH this sounds like the recent windows 10 TP/IP botch not a WAN issue at all.

How long have you had the modem for? Old one of ours kept disconnecting at busy times of the day on all devices. New one now and works grand.

this is from my pc connected via wifi from a powerline adapter at the other end of the house from my modem.

Il try to do something connected directly to the modem later

    would this effect android/apple devices?

The modem is working ok so. Could it be too many devices working off the modem on WIFI? Its possible the windows 10 update would affect the modem connected to PC but android and apple devices are different operating systems so the windows 10 update have no bearing on them. It's important to keep them all up to date to the latest Operating System/Software for devices. Maybe connect one device at a time to the modem and see where the issue is occurring mainly or if you done this already its hard to pinpoint the issue without contacting EIR they might be able to see if you have connection issues.

Nope. Being honest I skimmed the OP a tiny bit.

Stats are perfect. And if it was a DSL issue you wouldnt have one device working another not. So that says its something internal or a f'cked router (unlikely).

see why my head is melted :D would too many devices running on my connection cause this kind of behavior? a perfect example of my problem happened this morning, watched a bit of tv in bed through a tablet, messed on phone all perfect, got up and tried my pc (different room but still working off of the same powerline adapter) no internet. had to remove my usb wifi dongle and reattach it, started working then. its just weird

    Wi-Fi dongle???
Are you working off a home plug or Wi-Fi? Please explain your setup better. Post model numbers so we know what we are dealing with.

I'm thinking myself you have wireless interference, i think you have your modem wireless and some other wireless on the same channel and conflicting

I have 2 tplink av500 WiFi power line adapters in the house, and the corresponding end has a Ethernet into the modem while being plugged directly into a wall socket. These adapters clone your WiFi via wps.

One adapter in in the hall near bedroom and office, my PC has a small tplink USB key that connects to the WiFi from the av500. Phones tablet and a Android box all connect to the same adapter via WiFi.

We have another av500 in the sitting room which has another android box, ps4 phones etc. Connected via WiFi. The signal from the modem can just about reach this room but the connection strength is crap which is why I've another adapter in there

turned the wifi off on the modem just in case the signal was conflicting with the adapters wifi, seems slightly better but im not holding my breath yet

If your AV500 has Ethernet plug your laptop in there and test the home plug without wireless. Get a Wi-Fi analyser app for your smartphone to see what channels are in use nearby, see if you have busy channels causing interference. Set wireless channel manually on all devices if possible.

Seany have you used the "TPPLC" application to monitor the homeplugs? It gives a live link rate that will show up any problems.

so i turned off wifi on the f2000 and ive set my extenders at channel 1 and channel 13, ive used an android wifi scanner and the two connections dont overlap, all around my connections seem steadier so thats promising :)

ED E is that tplinks own software? i used it to set the channels must look at it

If you have any device that refuses to connect change channel 13 to channel 11. Devices set to USA regulations will only see channels 1-11. Once upon a time this affected all Apple devices, it's been fixed now though but you may have some devices affected

I don't want to jinx it but everything seems much more stable since I messed around with the channel's :)

It's only if you have a issue, you'll know what it is
