I'm dosed up on hot lemon and drowsy cough medicine. I'm just so fed up coughing and sneezing.

    What works for you.

A cold shower or atleast run cold water over your head, I find it clears everything right out and you feel like new or you could just woman up and deal with it.

Get a bottle of rum, the good dark stuff.

Boil some water and put it in a mug add a knob of butter and a spoon of sugar mix it until the butter melts. Then pour in a good drop of the rum, two pub measures at least .

Drink that tucked up in bed and get a good nights sleep.

I always do the opposite of above,
Full hot bath , hot as you can take, so all your body is under the water.
Sit in there for a good while and sweat like a motherfu*ker.
    Will clear you right up.
Jump in the shower then to cool off.
You will feel like sh*t for about an hour after , but that passes.
I do the same everyday until it's gone.

OP; You a woman? If so. sorry. But, ye wouldn't be man enough for my own way :pac:

Seriously though: It involves a Holly bush and is quite disgusting. Cures a cold though. I haven't had a cold in over forty years now. Since I tried this remedy.

Must be something in that? Fear?!

If it's only a remedy don't you need to get a cold to cure it

Get someone to give you a fright, that should clear it right up.

    Sorry, Sam. I'm struggling here.

I'm probably in the upper age group of this place. Almost certainly the lower acuity level. And, probably, more piss drunk, more of the time, than half of ye could ever imagine.

Now; WTF are ye asking? :)

I use all the usual remedies during the day, paracetamol / Beecham's blackcurrant / mentholy lemsip. At night before bed I take a couple of hot Paddy's with lemon and cloves. Works wonders clearing my sinuses long enough to get some sleep.

Put Vaseline on the end of your nose in between wiping, minimises the dryness.

Hot 7up, a few Anadin extra throughout the day & since i had a blocked nose a Vicks nasal inhaler worked wonders for me

All the above Lemsip and all that, but also, I swear by our humidifier.

It's an electrical Vicks one, you plug it in, it has a water trough that's designed so it won't spill if you kick into it by accident and a little light on it. A kettle like system bubbles up the water, it's normally good for 12 hours without refill (say 9 hours, but it cuts off automatically when water's too low anyway).
It's mad but the steam throughout the night can be miraculous for both chesty and tickly coughs if you don't mind the boiling kettle sound. And I find it clears nasal passages somewhat too !
I need to buy a second one actually for when we all get the cold at the same time.

    This http://www.johnbellcroyden.co.uk/wcsstore/rc602/images/catalog/3169356_l.jpg

For tonight if you're still awake and struggling maybe boiling a kettle a few times in your bedroom will do the trick.

The above is not much good for an asthma type of cough.

edit : got mine in boots a few years ago.
This crowd seem to have it now http://www.mccabespharmacy.com/vicks-warm-steam-vaporiser.html

Well, whatever you do or take, a cold takes three days to come, three days here and three days to go....

I just wait it out. Had one at Christmas that took five days to arrive; I always watch and wait on the rare occasions i have been out and among folk as I know my immune system is wonky and that one fooled me totally.. But I am semi bedbound anyways. Already on pain meds.

Vicks is wonderful. always have it to hand.

I'm struggling with a cold since the week before Christmas, but it was worse than an ordinary cold, muscle soreness and fatigue with bad bad headache and coughing didnt start till a week later.
Still sniffling and coughing head is still sore on and off and to top it off because I'm pregnant and can't take drugs as I'm allergic to paracetamol :(
On the up side, I passed it on to my OH .. :D

Hope anyone who has it feels better soon

7 people dead so far this season from the Flu. Does seem like one of the more severe cold/flu seasons. I've been struggling badly to shake it off myself along with the OH, brother and a good few friends. Just when I thought I was getting better yesterday the lungs tightened up during the night and I was heaving for breath. Severe as ****!

Went into work for 2 days last week and a good few from the office were off sick.

A doctor in donegal was saying they need to keep all the schools closed for another week because it's going to cause the flu to spread like mad.

    Proper flu as well.

I have had it since Thursday with no signs of giving up. Constant sneezing and coughing. I'm getting some relief taking drowsy medicine and sleeping a bit. But once it wears of, I'm awake sneezing again. It's a nasty dose alright. Have no energy to do anything.

Ive tried all the cures and best so far is Benylin 4Flu. Good for sleep, runny nose, sinus pains cough and sore throat.

I think I'm immune to drowsy medicine. It's not working for me anymore.

Sounds like what I had, and the good news is that it is abating now thankfully.
