I only finish a few now and then bit I'd say due to their breeding you'll have them gone a lot sooner , would 60 days on 6 kilos finish them

if you put them on 5kg they will hit 4 in the fat score in 3 weeks

Roughly 52% KO so around 280kg CW in a month's time, ideal fat score around 3= or 3+. Your biggest problem will be them going overfat, ask an agent to look at them if you are not sure. If they go too fat you'll lose the QA bonus. Are you signed up with bord bia?

Yes I'm in bord bia.also thinking of going with the Angus or Hereford producer group aswell for few cents more if it's in it....so am I right in saying these types of heifers are finished around 600kg,is a 3+ fat score not over fat..as I said I'm new to this finishing crack..

    4+ is overfat for bonuses

Quick question lads, not used to finishing animals.
What kind of money would this animal run into in the factory? Bull 29 months old U=2= 455 kg carcass?

3.75 base if your QA that's and extra .12 if U= that's another .12 so total price would be €3.99/kg.. @455kg hanging that would be €1815.14..

Would you get the qa on bull over 24mts or even 16mts for that matter? Was thinking that 3.80 flat would be the tops and maybe a 10-15c cut for over weight. So approx 1650-1700.

You'll get stock bull price for him (because he is over 24 months) which as far as I know is less than cow price so say €3 a kg. could be less.

Thanks lads, I have a few pedigree bulls approaching 2 years old in March so I would be better off to kill them before 2 if the price for breeding bulls is poor. Otherwise if I persist and they go over 2 they ll be well back in the factory option.

What breed are they? If they're Lims Roscrea might give you a few cent/kg more.

Neighbour keeps bulls with his bullocks and they would be all 27-29mts heading up the ramp. Dangerous bastards. He is getting a lot more than €3 per kg!!

He must be squeezing in a few as bullocks. It would depend on how many one in a load of 15-20 might get away if FS3 but in general it is very hard to shift any such cattle at anything but stock bull price. I doubt if stock bull price is much with 2.5/ kg at present with the prime beef base at 3.8/kg.

On the heifers OP have you weighted them or are you going by eye. AA are dodgy from the point of view of whether you have the real good ones or the slow growth type. Factory grading is all over the place at present cattle need a lot of flesh and fat to get to FS3. In think it could take longer for them to go through the FS than you think. It will also depend on ration. I presume that they are on nuts already. more than likely a,14% ration. I buy a bit of bagged barley ( if there was flour in it) and maize and feed a kg of each with the nuts to the 7 heaviest ones. If prices start to drop and they are within FS I be sending them off. 10c/ kg will never be recovered by extra weight put on by nuts.
