Right, have a nexus 7 2013 32gb that took a tumble. Outside glass is perfect but there's cracks on the inside part. It's still working but given its old these days I bought an nvidia shield to replace it. Rather than let it sit in a drawer has anyone any good ideas for it? Can it be turned into an android tv box?

Can definitely be an android remote not sure on box.
Could look to use it as a sat nav, or a dedicated chromecast device, Bluetooth music device or just a screen for cctv.

The Nexus 7 doesn't work out of the box with MHL in case you've already tried one of those.

You need to get a Slimport adapter and then you can plug it in to a HDMI port on a TV.
They're anything from €10-€25 on amazon or adverts.

Install KODI on it and you have a really fast android box with no problem handling full 1080p.

And the OP could also consider Mobdro.
