A question or two about Denon AVR-X2300W

Hi guys, i was wondering could someone answer these questions for me please?

Firstly, which would be a better buy? The Denon AVR-X2300W or the Sony STR-DN1060

Both have 2 hdmi outputs, a general question about this. Can both hdmi outputs be connected to the TV? Reason being, I want my blu ray player to have different picture settings to my other devices like my pc. So i would have HDMI 1 on my tv different settings to HDMI 2 on my tv.

Is the Denon AVR-X2300W a good receiver to have for 4K 60Hertz pass though?

One last question, right now i have my pc is connected through hdmi to my Sony STR-DH550 receiver and in turn the hdmi output from the receiver connected to the Sony Tv KD-55X8509C. With this setup, I can get 5.1 surround sound.
But, and here is my question, why can i not get 5.1 when i connect my pc to the TV directly through HDMI and an optical cable connected from the TV to the receiver?

    Hey,
I have this exact Receiver. Got it a few weeks before Christmas to replace an ageing Pioneer. I really needed the extra hdmi inputs and the 4K support is a bonus. I have the 49" version of your tv too!

On the 2 hdmi output question, yeah I think that actually should be possible but not something I've tried. The AVR outputs exactly the same signal from both hdmi outs so I guess there's nothing to stop you connecting both to one tv and then adjusting the tv picture settings to suit.

With the Denon, I'd connect your pc to one of the hdmi inputs (there's 8 of them!) and let it handle the 5.1 audio directly etc. That said, your tv should be able to do this too - I've tried outputting 5.1 from my tv with various devices over optical and it definitely does work. Check your audio settings on the tv. Maybe it's set to output stereo only? Also with the Denon you can ditch the optical cable altogether and use the ARC over hdmi. Works perfectly for me.

Overall I'm really pleased with the Denon. The sound quality is a big improvement on what I had before and what I had was pretty good! I particularly like how the auto setup - Audessy - worked so well, the sound seems to fill the room a lot better than my pioneer did.

Then there's loads of cool features like AirPlay and Bluetooth, can stream music directly to it from your phone. And there's a handy phone App to control it too.

I have the amp set to pass through the video signal. I don't let the AVR do any upscaling or any of that stuff at all which seems to be the recommended thing to do generally.

There's a great owners thread for it here: https://www.avforums.com/threads/denon-avr-x2300w-owners-thread.2040780/

    Overall - love it.

Thanks very much for your help.

The only sound setting i see in relation to output format is TV speakers or Audio System. I tried both but to no avail. What settings have you on your TV?

On the 2 HDMI output thing, do you think you could try out what i am looking to do, please? Two hdmi outputs into the TV?

Its just would save me alot of money if it didn't work.

By the way, if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the Denon?

I'm away from the house now but I can check my tv settings and report back later! I do remember when I got the tv first I had some issues with the audio output over optical. But a few firmware updates and it's been OK ever since.

Trying the 2nd hdmi cable would be very awkward for me I'm afraid as the tv is up on the wall and tricky to get another cable to it from the receiver.

I bought it for £399 stg from Richersounds. They have a forum on here, good guys to deal with.

I'd also suggest registering on avforums and posting question on that owners forum. Some really knowledgeable guys on there.

Right, here you go, you need to set your TV audio settings like I have in these pics. I'd imagine your tv has very similar setup menus.

Make sure it's on "Auto 1" - this means it's just going to pass through all audio types (stereo, 5.1, whatever, out the optical and down to your AVR.
