House hold benefit package?

Hi,

My wife and I recently built a new home and her parents are both going to live with us (both 70+).

The never claimed the benefits package before. The Electric is in both my name and my Father in law.

Can they now claim their entitlement in this new house? I only ask as there is question on the form asking how else is living in the house and how much they earn. Will our earnings potentially mean they wont get it?

Anyone over 70 is entitled to the HB package, but only one per household. (That would be your Father-in-law, as his name is on the electricity account). It's not means-tested. I've no idea why they ask about how much someone else living in the house earns, but it won't affect the claim. Make sure to fill in the bit for the free TV licence as well.

Great. To be honest we dont want anything off them as they both only on the OOP them but they want to contribute this is something that they should get.
