Huawei HG659 - Ethernet Ports (LAN) limited to 100Mbps SIRO

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a query.

We had Siro 350mbps fibre to the home installed today.

When i connect to the router (Huawei HG569) via wireless i can get download speeds of 150+ Mbps,
however when i connect via Ethernet (8 pin cat5e cable) to my desktop PC, capable of 1Gbps, i get less than 100 Mbps.

In the router settings it says that my LAN connection is "Connected Full 100 Mbps", even though the router supposedly has gigabit Ethernet ports?

Is there anyway of increasing the speed through my LAN ports on my router? It is pretty pointless having a service capable of delivering 350Mbps if the router provided is throttling the LAN service to 100 Mbps.

    Thanks in advance,

The modem is definitely capable of 1Gb/s, so most likely you have your LAN port hard configured for 100Mb/s or is not 1Gb/s capable. Check your LAN port is set to 1Gb/s full duplex or set to Auto Negotiate.

Try connecting the laptop into the ONT port and see if it comes up at 1Gb/s on your laptop then. Use the existing cable between ONT and HG659 just to ensure the cable you are using isn't faulty or not of correct spec for 1Gb/s

    Hey,

    Thank you for your reply.

My LAN port is currently set to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex. By default it was set to Auto Negotiate but I changed it to 1.0 Gbps earlier and that made no difference.

I also went out this evening and bought 3 brand new 2m cat5e cables just in case it was an issue with the ones supplied with the HG659. I tried all different combinations but was still only receiving the 100Mbps connection.
I also had my brother bring his laptop over. This laptop has 1Gbps capabilities but he too was only able to get the 100Mbps connection.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'Try connecting the laptop into the ONT port'. Is this the new box that was installed in our house today? The box that has the Ethernet cable connected to the HG659? If so, then I did as you asked and connected the cable from the ONT straight to the laptop but when I did this I no internet connection at all.

Again, thank you for your assistance.

    Not the first:

Wouldnt be surprised if its botched switching firmware similar to the Ubee from VMI last year.

Your internet won't work when you connect the laptop to the ONT but it would help confirm if the fault is with laptop or HG659. If the port speed on laptop is 1gbs then you know the laptop is eirking fine.

Anyway definitely sounds like a faulty router now. I'd call vodafone and look for a new one.

Ignore I was suggesting you look in router, speeds can take a few days to settle but if router says 100mb then its faulty, what does the ethernet wan say in router

    Interface Status
    Interface Status Rate
    LAN1 Up 1000M / Full
    LAN2 Up 100M / Full
    LAN3 Up 1000M / Full
    LAN4 Up 100M / Full
    WLAN 2.4GHz Up N/A
    WLAN 5GHz Up N/A
Ethernet WAN Up 1000M / Full
    DSL NoLink N/A
    3G USB NoDevice N/A

It doesn't need anytime to settle, if its not working correctly when the engineer leaves the house then you have a problem.
