About to lose the will to live...
Have an Eir F2000 Router about 3 months old (Huawei Firmware V100R001C59B023 - Attenuation: 36.5 dB/22.5 dB)
We're very rural so old copper lines with max 5MB down.
House of 2 adults and 3 teens
1 teen is a gamer so got him a pair of TP Link powerline adapters (TL PA 411 Kit) a year ago to make best of a bad situation.
But in past month or so the WiFi for the rest of us in the house has become almost unusable. Ive tried the usual reboots, temp remove the TP links from the situation but not really making any progress.
I read that some of those TP link kits can impact the wifi for others using the network but no specific info or better still resolution.
Tonight I did a speedtest on two different laptops, both only feet from the router, both around 300 ping and a cool 0.01MB down all of which took about 6 minutes to complete the simple test.
So plugged in a CAT5 direct to the routher and reran and hey presto 24 ping 4.5MB down.
During both tests no other wifi users were active (yes phones connected but not actively browsing) and the Gamer dude was only reading email via the TP Link
I notice all the users are assigned to the 2.4Ghz WLAN and the 5Ghz is unused.
Gamerboy said the 2.4 has better range but hey if it cant handle 12 inches we're going nowhere.
So not sure what to try next.
As I only "try" use in evenings coz on fibre in work during the day Ive let it slide.
But I value my marriage and if I have to face any more angry faces Ill stop paying the bill. or leave. or both. help wanted. thanks

ps. it only took me 8 minutes to login to this boards page..

Do the homeplugs mimic the f2000s name or appear as "TP-..."?

Where is the router located? Beside/behind any devices like TV, Radio, Microwave etc.?
Ping the router while on wireless. What do the results look like?

The kit is just homeplug, so no L3 presence.

    OP,

I would guess on 3 things.

    Interference from something else.
    Faulty hardware
Your son has enabled a QOS policy on wireless to limit downloading. 5mbps is low enough that basic streaming/browsing might have been annoying him in games. A quick google implies it can be done on that modem but with it being Eir and the modem being Chinese, there is no decent manual.

Ill ping it when I get home but its only beside a base station for a house phone. Ill try unplugging that and see.
I suppose also maybe one of the Christmas tree light transformers could be impacting which is also plugged in there too?
Ill try that too thanks and revert this eve

Finally knocked a few possibilities off the list and narrowed it to A poor house cabling up to the router and/or poor Eircom service, older exchange crippled by added post Christmas congestion from probably a doubling of devices. So while all i can do is to wait on the upgraded exchange which sadly only shows as slated for an upgrade no ETA so ill at least get the wiring situation improved. Thx
