At CES, Google has announced that Google Assistant (same one as in GHome) is coming directly to Android TV, on various TV's and set top boxes.

Google Home can already control things on an Android TV, but building it straight in brings it to the next level.

They have also announced the Nvidia Spot, which seems to be very similar to the Echo Dot, it is basically a device with just mics (and assumingly cheaper) that you can put in every room. Only thing is it requires a Nvidia Shield TV to run, unlike the Echo Dot which is standalone.

I'm still hoping for a updated Chromecast Audio that includes mics to compete with the Echo Dot.

Seems the Nvidia Spot will cost $50, so same as the Echo Dot. But again it requires the Nvidia Shield TV (which I do have and it is great).

To be honest, if I could get a GHome for $100 like during the Black Friday sales, I'm not sure I'd bother with this.

What's the point in the device with just mics? It has no speaker at all? Not having immediate feedback to your requests from the interface device sounds terrible. I'm assuming at the very least it has some sort of lighting to show you it has picked up your voice request?

The full details aren't in yet, I assume it has a small speaker similar to the Echo Dot, it looks like it from the pics anyway. And of course it could also output to nearby Chromecast Audio.

But I agree, an updated Chromecast Audio with Mics and a small speaker would be better.

I think the idea is that you don't buy a GHome at all. Instead you buy a Nvidia Shield TV with Google Assistant built in and then the Spot adds always-on mic to that setup.

EDIT: Confirmed, it has a speaker too, so just like an Echo Dot, but requires a Nvidia Shield TV, unlike the Dot.
